This term we have been very busy investigating "What makes Gorge Road a Wonderful Place" and we have discovered that we do in did live in a wonderful place. We have been on a walk and talk around the community, asked Mr Hamill questions, and made posters of our community.
Also this term we have looking at music appreciation as part of the Arts Curriculum. We have had visits from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, musican Bob Bickerton and Aranui Theatre.
Its been a great start to the term and already we have been sketching trees, we have started to learn about fractions in maths and we got to eat oranges. We have also been writing good holiday stories, and doing a maths basic facts test that we all loved, as well as practicing for Moffett Cup. Our netball team is doing magnificently and we have so far been undefeated in our competition in town. So we are hoping we can still do well without the boys for Moffett Cup.
Check out our photos of our netball and rugby teams photos from Moffett Cup.
This term we have been looking at Biotechnology and we have made ginger beer. Some of it tastes yummy and some of it tastes not so yummy. If you would like to make some we have added the recipe to our wikipage for you to follow.
Ginger Beer Recipe
To make the bug or mother plant you will need: 1 teaspoon dry yeast 4 tablespoons 2 cups warm water 3 1/2 tablespoons ginger
Place 1 tablespoon of sugar in a large jar. Add warm water and 1 tablespoon ginger. Mix well and cover the jar with a cloth and leave at room temperature for 8 days.
YOU MUST: Mix in 1 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and ginger each day.
For the syrup you will need: 6 cups sugar 4 1/2 litres warm water 1 1/2 litre cold water 1 cup strained lemon juice
Strain the yeast mixture through double muslin. Stir the syrup mixture well, and pour into clean screw top bottles. Fill to the base of the neck of the bottle. Leave in a cool spot for 7-8 days.
Term 4 This term we are looking forward to swimming, pet day, the BIG day out, camp, soccer tournament, milo cricket, surf life saving day at Oreti beach, Harold from the Life Bus visiting us and teaching us about how our hearts beat, and we are especially looking forward to seeing our parents all dressed up for the Halloween Ball. We will be very busy and our poor teacher feels tired already, and its only the first week!
